Videocon Telecom and Huawei to launch 4G rollout in India
Videocon Telecom, formerly known as Videocon Mobile Services, is an Indian cellular service provider that offers GSM mobile services across all the areas of India. Videocon held licenses to provide mobile services in 18 out of 22 telecom circles of India. Following the 2G spectrum scam, the Supreme Court cancelled 122 licenses issued by the Indian Government in 2008, including 21 licenses belonging to Videocon. In the 2012 spectrum auction, Videocon won back licenses in 6 circles.Videocon Telecom’s director and CEO Arvind Bali stated as recently, Videocon is planning to roll out LTE-ready packet core network with collaboration of Huawei technologies in these six circles. This new packet data will provide a larger data signals with lower costs to end users. Both Videocon telecommunications and Huawei technologies had a dispute on payments regarding Videocon Telecom licenses and now the issue has been resolved after Supreme Court judgment in February 2012.
Earlier, Videocon announced to have partnership with Nokia Siemens network but interestingly choose this Chinese equipment maker Huawei technologies to launch this product. This company is having fastest growth rate in its subscriber over the period of last eight months. But Videocon is having permit to only few roll out areas and soon yet to explore across all the areas of India.
