Microsoft expected to announce biggest layoffs this week
Multinational Corporation Microsoft Corp is expected to announce one of the biggest layoffs in history to meet CEO’s goal of increasing productivity. In 2009, Microsoft done largest layoffs and nearly 6,000 people were fired. Several months ago, Microsoft took over the mobile company Nokia for attractable price with a deal that added about 25,000 people to Microsoft’s payroll. So, this time the majority layoffs are expected to happen in Nokia handset unit.[post_ad]
In his latest memo to employees last week, Nadella had stated that Microsoft would announce organizational changes in July to help it simplify and grow faster. Most of the layoffs will be in global Xbox team, among software testers and rest of the job cuts may be from engineering organization. It also stated in the memo as employees will also have an opportunity to question Nadella regarding the job cuts on Friday at a regular town hall meeting that was scheduled before the exact timing of the layoffs was noticed.
Microsoft Corp currently has 125,000 employees and stated laying off thousands more than the 5,800 people laid off in 2009 would represent a small portion of the company work force. On July 22, Nadella would address detailed organizational and financial related concerns for this financial year, which started at the beginning of this month.
