BITS Goa student Patel lands Rs 1.4 crore offer from Google
A 21-year old Krunal Kishorbhai Patel, student of BITS Pilani, Goa campus, has landed a Rs 1.4-crore starting annual salary offer from Google for a position at the internet giant's headquarters at Mountain View, California. The campus placement will see him join the company as a software engineer in next year October.
In BITS Goa Campus, currently Patel is pursuing a dual degree — BE (honours) in computer science and MSc (honours) in mathematics. Patel says that, "I couldn't believe it for a few seconds when my recruiter called me to present the offer and finally Patel says it was the best day of my life. Google had conducted APAC test for students who would be graduating in 2015 from different universities across Asia Pacific and Patel ranked second in India and eighth overall.
Hailing from Rajkot, Gujarat, Patel finished his schooling from Atmiya. "Till my third year I was not bothered about the placements. I had no clue as to what companies are looking out for. But, I made sure I kept my grades high and focused on learning as many things as I could to update my knowledge about computer science and mathematence and mathematics," says Patel. He scored well in both the courses at the college with a CGPA (cumulative grade point average value) of 9.4, and cleared GATE 2014 with an all-India rank of 10 in computer science.
Patel would now be role model for many aspiring computer engineers and he has a word of suggestion for them, "Keep exploring new areas in computer science and work hard on the one you find interesting. Practice programming really hard. Do as many projects as you can and most importantly keep your grades up."
