Dropbox's VP Aditya Agarwal joins Flipkart's board
Flipkart, India's leading e-commerce marketplace, today announced that Aditya Agarwal, Vice President of Dropbox, will join Flipkart's family and soon he is going to become as an independent board member. Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal said that Agarwal is one of the master minds in the Silicon Valley and will be an invaluable to the rapidly growing eCommerce firm.
Aditya was one of the first engineers at Facebook and played a key role in helping to design and build core parts of the Facebook engineering infrastructure. He holds Master’s and Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Aditya added: “Technology drives some of the biggest innovations in this world. I'm very excited to join Flipkart board, which is building technology that can change the retail landscape of a country as complex as India – it is an opportunity that has massive potential.”
Aditya heads engineering at the US-based cloud-storage start-up Dropbox which offers a free service that allows people to bring their photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them easily. Aditya came to Dropbox via the acquisition of Cove, a company he co-founded in 2011 that was focused on improving group collaboration and communication. Prior to Cove, Aditya was the Director of Product Engineering at Facebook where he oversaw the development of core products such as News Feed, Search, Photos, Profile and Applications.
Apart from Aditya’s new appointment, Flipkart is also spending big to attract senior executives across various functions. The Bengaluru-based company announced the appointment of Rishi Vasudeva, chief executive of Calvin Klein India, as its vice-president of fashion (retail) on Wednesday. It also announced the appointment of Parameswaran Balakrishnan as vice president of human resources. Balakrishnan was previously heading employee relations and corporate social responsibility for the India operations of Tata Motors. Last week, Flipkart named former Tata Communications Ltd finance chief Sanjay Baweja as its new chief financial officer.
